In my point of view. the govenment should be more discreet on bring casino to singapore. firstly, it may cause local poeple becaming addicted to gambling. Now the doors are open to all the evil that are associated with casinos and Singapore will never be the same. secondly, opening casinos in singapore will definetely bring more tourists, however, most tourists are not rich enough to bring a considerable income. as mentioned in the article, there were even foriegn labours sleeping outside the door way!thirdly, as i see it, casino will not only bring evil, it also waste resouces because it encourage poeple to use thier money for nothing! in conclusion, I don't think it is a good idea to bring casino to singapore, and no doubt, there will be many other problems in the future!

  1. I agree with Roy that in term of the casino issue, whatever decision the government made should be considerate. However, I think it is very difficult to say bringing casinos to Singapore is correct or not. In the long view of Singapore economics, there must be something powerful to lead the others. Now, the government chose to develop the tourism industry and also chose to build casinos to attract tourists. In my point of view, it does not really matters if the foreign tourists hardly spend much money in the casinos because the other relevant industries such as hotels and restaurants.

  2. Personally, I agree with Roy that there are some problems about the casino. As he mentioned, most of the visitors are foreign tourists and they do not contribute much money, etc. I think it is natural to have these problems for a newly opened casino, especially during the pre-open period. I am afraid the most serious problem is whether the profit gained will recover the cost. Singapore government has put into so much money and time to build the casino, and of course, it will attract tourists. However, Macao is a more competitive rival in terms of gambling. Singapore has already done well in tourism, and I am not sure about the effectiveness of the casino towards tourism.

  3. Your point is good, BUT what is it then?
We should now focus on how to deal with the situation but not only blaming.
