Summary
SingPost decides that the postmen will not be working on Saturdays from May 15. Since Singaporeans have been relying more on Internet to communicate each other than letters, the number of items delivered by postmen is decreasing over the years. Moreover, the mails handled on Saturdays are much less than those on weekdays. However, SingPost has promised that the service standard will remain the same as usual.

Reflection
In my opinion, I agree that postmen should take a break on Saturdays. With the development of electronic communication equipment, it is a fact that people are sending fewer and fewer letters to communicate with each other. I remembered that I used to have some pen friends, when I was in primary school, and sometimes I complained about the efficiency of postal service. However, after I had a computer and later a cell phone, I started to chat online and send text messages instead of writing letters. Nowadays, only the companies need to send plenty of mails. It does not mean that the job as a postman is not so important than before, but it is much easier. That is an improvement for postmen, and they have the right to work the same 5 days in a week as other people do.

  1. I agree with Ningxin' idea that people are sending fewer letters, instead, they use cell phones or chatting on the Internet. From my perspectivc, I think sometimes the atmosphere created by a letter is fantastic. especially nowadays,it will give you a surprise. Through it , you can also feel the sender's sincerity .
Whenever you recall the memory ,you can read the letter again.
On the other hand, it is a good thing to let the postman relax on saturdays. It had been a long time for them to work without rest. Moreover, I appreciate that Singpost capture what people concerned. Since the amount of letters decrease, people are afraid of the safety of this service. They claim their promise in time

  2. I agree with Ningxin and Rainy that people are sending fewer and fewer letters nowadays. From my experience, most of the letters in Singapore posted by postman are system letters or bills from different companies, and you can hardly find one who still writing letters nowadays. also, I totally agree that postman should have a rest on Saturday. Truly, writing e-mails and chatting online cannot replace the happiness brought by receiving a letter from others, however, using letters to communicate with people in this information era is kind of wasting resources. In a word, having postman rested on Saturday is a great idea.

  3. Admittedly, letters becomes fewer and fewer in people's life nowadays. E-mails easily takes the place of it by its convenience and rapidness. Only when we need to send bills and documents, we suddenly realize that there are something called Sngapost. I cannot tell this is good or bad. However, the work for postman to do is definately becoming easier especially on weekend. So, it is a rational and good idea to free them on saturdays.

  4. I agree with Ningxin Zhang's idea that people are using the post fewer and fewer. Nowadays, with the highly developed technology, people are using the emails and sms more than writing letters. Even though writing a letter might seems more meaningful, the fast speed of exchanging message through the internet is considered more importantly. As for the postman, I don't think they will finally be taken place, but apparently, they will have fewer thing to do in the near future.
